I finally got a new(er/ish) iPod. Yes, I'm a dinosaur, so I still like to have my music stored on an iPod not an iPhone. I don't want the expense of an iPhone either. I was surfing around on eBay the other day and saw a 120 GB iPod that was going pretty cheap. It was used, but still about 1/2 the price of others I'd been watching and bidding on. I was able to get in a last-minute bid and steal that baby away for a song. Not only did I get a great deal, I will get cash back from my eBay purchase because I made the purchase through a link on my Ibotta app.

No this isn't a sponsored blog, but I will say I earn money using Ibotta and want you to know about. If you click my referral link I can earn referral cash from Ibotta, but so can you, so it's not like they paid me to write this. I am telling you about Ibotta because I use it and love it so far.

So, what is it? Ibotta is an app that gives you rebates. You buy something that has a rebate you've activated and when you take a picture of your receipt (typical way of confirming purchase), they put money in your account. Once you get $20, you can have it. Really, just put it right in your PayPal or get a gift card, or there are other options.

I had the app about a month before I got my first gift card. You do get pretty good bonuses when you first start, so I thought well, that'll be the only money I ever earn. Excuse me, but NO. I have a balance on my account of over $65 right now. I'm just letting it accumulate until I know I'll be short on cash for Spring Break. I can have it anytime I want it.

I have a small team of friends. Not many of them are extremely active, but just between me and a co-worker that is pretty active with the rebates, we've earned several monthly bonuses that add to the balance too.

Anyway, you can tell I "drank the kool-aid", so I'm just going to say I strongly recommend it and hope that you'll check it out.

Click one of the 900 links I've posted in this blog to join so you're part of my team. While I can't make promises about reaching any certain bonuses, I can say I'm in it for the long haul, because money talks.

Know what I'm fixing to do? I'm going to plug in my old-new iPod and start loading it up with my 90GB or so of music. Not counting CDs I've purchased in the last year that I couldn't even dream of uploading to my old iPod that was packed to the gills. Let's see how long this takes.

Maybe I should keep them both, or maybe I'll sell the old one. I haven't decided yet.

I'm guessing the download will take 30 hours or so. Let's see if my laptop melts. I've been lazy and antisocial. I haven't wanted to go to music shows or really even deal with stuff. I've been doing a lot of watching YouTube and a little bit of eBay.

I'll tell you some of my favorite channels and give you a sample video...

Those are some of my recent favorites, anyway. Of course I watch Grav3yardgirl, Good Mythical Morning, ThreadBanger, lisbug, etc. Do you have any other suggestions?

I don't mind the ads, so I haven't bought into YouTube Red. I barely use my Netflix account, so I don't see the value of it right now. Maybe if the add some more "gotta see" content, but I'm pretty good at avoiding the hype of shows you have to watch on a subscription service, including HBO and it's cousins.

I'm still keeping some eBay stuff going. Take a minute and check it out; you might find something you want. I have a variety, you can't deny that. Right now, I have some vintage (still sealed) card booster packs, some awesome never-used vintage bowling patches from the 60s and 70s, office supplies and just an assortment of pop culture, useful, new, used, randomness.Ramblings of a Baby Dinosaurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06934306642559715622noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2626882623083389952.post-65716330266806072752016-04-12T22:06:00.002-05:002016-07-13T07:30:14.599-05:00Dinoscore: Sing Street (Movie)I'm old. I grew up in the 80s, although I'll admit I was in that awkward part of the decade where I was a bit too young to be fully in the know for the early 80s music. I didn't have older siblings to help me catch on, so I locked in around when a-ha was really starting to take hold.

I had long school bus rides each day to our little school. Everyone rode the same bus from Kindergarten through 12th grade. So, a little kid like me could learn a lot from the big kids (which isn't always a good thing). But, some of the stuff I learned was about music. The kids would have their boom boxes and be playing the latest songs. My older cousin, Andy, would take the time to try to explain them to me. Then, Friday Night Videos came out. It was past my bedtime, but we had recently gotten a VCR so I was able to tape the show and really feel like a grown up. I didn't really know what to think about those videos, but Andy explained that I was trying to take the lyrics too literally. He explained a lot of stuff, but never could quite get me to understand the appeal of Tears for Fears.

My taste has ping ponged back and forth, sometimes daily, but tonight I saw a movie that brought back the excitement I used to have as a kid getting a new cassette or getting to visit a friend that had MTV (we didn't have cable out in the country!).

I love Irish movies and tonight was no exception. I got invited to a screening of Sing Street. It's set in 80s Dublin, where a group of school kids start a band to impress a girl and escape problems at home and at school. Sounds serious, I know. It did have a little bit of serious, but just enough for suspense, it wasn't one of those tear jerkers. Between the music and the laughs watching those teens, it was worth the serious moments and I really enjoyed the music!

I don't want to give it away, but I do seriously think you should give it a try:
Let's see what happens for April.

Honestly, I've been a little out of touch. I seem to never get around to listening to my iPod much and certainly don't get a lot of downloading done. I even let my Daytrotter subscription lapse for a bit, but I'm sure I'll get it going again before long.

I haven't been to any shows. I was going to go...I was even there at Golden Groves EP release party, but ended up leaving before the show started... not because of them, but because I was tired and my back hurt.

Maybe this summer. We'll see what happens. Middle of the Map Fest has some shows I'm interested in but not necessary at venues I'd prefer. I'm definitely not doing a full pass this year like last year.

So some recent "likes":

Sun Club - Beauty Meat

Judah Lee (w/ Sam Pinkerton) - I Do

You know I love Sam Pinkerton, so it's almost like it's cheating with this one.

The Ballroom Thieves - Archers

Criminal Hygiene - Pickman
Here's a different song, I couldn't find Pickman link

That's a pretty good list.... right? OK, see you around.Ramblings of a Baby Dinosaurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06934306642559715622noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2626882623083389952.post-43591924814436265002016-02-12T21:33:00.000-06:002016-02-12T21:33:14.971-06:00Recently Unearthed: DREAMERS - You Are Here EPWhile I'm waiting for my iPod to sync, I'll just start typing. If I'm still awake when that's done, maybe I'll get to something of some interest.

I've been home for two days taking care of my mom who just had knee replacement surgery, so I'm a little stir crazy right now. I'm about 37 minutes from just sitting in the corner of my room and rocking back and forth. I cannot watch any more TV or play any more Candy Crush or Bloons. Sure, I could do something a bit more productive like listing all of my personal belongs on eBay, but let's not get crazy with productivity... I still have 3 days to go before I go back to work.

I've been horribly behind on updating my music stash. Today I got caught up on downloads from Golden Groves, Mat Shoare, and a bunch of stuff from Noisetrade (I usually go for samplers on there). So, I've got something like 200 songs syncing right now -- if they'll fit.

While it might be a bit early to give you any feedback on the newest downloads, I did grab
DREAMERS - Wolves recently from a Daytrotter session.

Actually, I like the EP, You Are Here, so much, I just stopped and bought it while I was writing this.

So, I think my computer might melt now, so this list is going to be less list and more of a mention of DREAMERS. Check it out.

I'll say goodbye for now.
Best of 2015.I decided this summer I wanted to listen straight through to all the 10,000+ songs on my iPod. I got to about "P" before the play sequence got messed up and I never could get it to go quite back to the same sequence. However, I still feel like that was successful. It allowed me to delete a ton of stuff that honestly I hated and have no need to ever hear again. Although I sometimes want to name names, I typically try not to just for kindness sake, so I'm not going to dwell on the "losers". Now, in that same activity, I also found a lot of songs I really like, so for today's blog I decided to sort my list by songs I've uploaded to my iTunes in 2015 (doesn't mean the song was from 2015) and since uploading have given it a good score.

So here we go, sort of in order, sort of not. I'm going to give you some links, but some of them I've talked about before so might not go into huge detail about. Besides, you don't need me to tell you a bunch of stuff. Your ears will know.

I've put as many as I could in a YouTube Playlist for you.

Michelle Branch - Creep (Cover)
Lo-Fang - You're the One That I Want (Cover)
Both of these songs were featured on the CBS series, Stalker. The show didn't last long, but I loved the creepy covers they'd play at the end of each eposide.

The Lone Bellow - Then Came the Morning
The Lone Bellow - Cold As It Is
I really, just really love The Lone Bellow and all that Zach Williams does.

J. Roddy Walston and The Business - Boys Can Never Tell
I listen to a lot of music from these guys, but I particularly like this one.

Sam Pinkerton - You Never Will
I still just love Sam Pinkerton's music a ton. I've told you about her before, so I'm not going to repeat myself. If I'm trying to just relax and get some work done, she's singing to me on my buds.

Golden Groves - Remember
Their album will be out in February 2016. Yeah, I'm ready.

Current Swell - Ulysses
It took me about 2 seconds to know I was going to love this song. Songs like this are the very reason I've been trying so hard to be sure I listen to my entire hoard. I own some great songs and am missing out on them! I got this from a Nettwerk Fall Music Sampler, probably from Amazon. I'll definitely be downloading more tracks.

Mat Shoare - I Yi Yi
If nothing else, get his Daytrotter Session, but I just really enjoy his sound.

Criminal Hygiene - Pickman
This, along with several songs on this list came from the Spring Limited Fanfare Records sampler. The band is very new to me and not my usual sound, but I still like it and look forward to finding time to listen to them more.

*repeat repeat - Don't Want Anybody

Moving Pictures - What About Me
This is an olllld song, but sometimes I get it stuck in my head, so I downloaded it.

Josh Garrels - Decision
I own a lot of Josh Garrels music. I enjoy his voice. Not every song of his is for me, but I do like this one a lot.

Benjamin Booker - Wicked Waters
The label must have really be pushing this song because I own like 14 copies of it. I really like the song and it's one of those I have to listen to at least 3 times before I go on to the next song.

Ex Norwegian - First Time

First Aid Kit - Hard Believer

Ellen O'Meara - Weep Not for Me

Knox Hamilton - Work it Out
I am eagerly anticipating the new recordings they're working on right now.

The Ballroom Thieves - Archers

Austin Manuel - Hold On Tight

Butch Walker - Chrissie Hynde

Milo Greene - Lie To Me

Two Gallants - Invitation to the Funeral

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends

Dan Deacon - When I Was Done Dying

The Last Bison - Magic Carpet Ride (Cover)

I know there's some missing from this list, for a lot of different reasons. I have tons of excuses, some of which include, but are not limited to:

My new living situation and really, really busy work life has really made it difficult to keep blogging for numerous reasons. Since about 4th grade I've had what I call arthritis in my hands, I don't know if that's really what it is, but my hands hurt a lot when I write or type a lot or do things with my hands. Even though I have just a normal 40 hour job, that usually is really more like 45 hours or so a week and a lot of it is using my hands (typing and doing basic office work). Sometimes, by the time I get home, I really just sit around praying for my hands to fall off because I think it would be less painful if I laid my hand on the railroad tracks and let a train cut them off.

So, out of that is my dramatic way of saying that sometimes blogging physically hurts too much to do it. I've considered stuff like YouTube, but I'm just not into being in videos and it's a lot to figure out, honestly. Although I love my job so much, I do enough reading and figuring stuff out all day, I don't need to add that to my life either.

I try to keep my iPod close by and listen, but I haven't been good about staying on top of downloads. My iPod is mostly full. Sometimes I think it hates me. Maybe I need a newer one? But, I don't know.

Really, this isn't about excuses, but just know that a lot of times there are things I want to blog but just don't have time or energy to do it. I try to do some Instagram stuff in between, although I'll admit it even slacks off when it's super busy.

Before I sign off, I wanna give a shout to The Shameless Pursuit, a KC band that was kind enough to check out my blog recently and send me a message, which encouraged me to get something new posted. I haven't seen them live yet, but a chance is coming up January 10 at the Riot Room.
Not as much as I'd like. My new living arrangements have toned down my night life quite a bit, though I do have a healthy list of shows I'd like to attend over the next couple of months. Realistically, I'll be lucky to make it to 2 or 3 of the shows I have on my "I wanna" list.

I do have tickets to IAMDYNAMITE for later in August. I've enjoyed their music for several years now. I have a ticket to G-Love, but it falls on the same night as Water Liars, so I'm not sure who is going to win that battle.

Mat Shoare has a few shows coming up, which all fall at kind of not great times for me, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Kodaline is coming in October. They're at Power & Light so I'm going to try to make that work, though it's not my favorite venue.

Dawes is back in town, but they're never here at a time I can make it to a show. Natural Child will be here in September, which should be fun.

October brings William Fitzsimmons. I listen to him a lot, but haven't really kept up with newer releases.

Martin Sexton will be here in November. I've seen him perform live before and enjoyed it, so I might swing by for another try.

What have I been doing with my time? Well, I spend a lot of time listening to music still, I just never get around to telling you about it. I've been to several shows in the last months, but not as many. I've been staying active with Yelp events too.

I sold my condo and am renting now. I've actually been doing some decorating, which is something I didn't do much of before. My Insta Hang has been a miracle with hanging pictures, etc. If they'd spent a little extra on manufacturing quality, that thing would be a miracle product. As it is, it's a little rinky dink, but I still use it a ton. I've already bought refills for it!

RedditGifts is a ton of fun for me. If you haven't done it before, give it a shot! I'm more in to the gifting than the receiving a gift for some reason. I think it's because I usually find a way to make some little craft project to go with the gift and that's fun for me.

Be sure to follow me on Instagram. I've found that's a good place to give frequent updates and use it more than other Social Media platforms.

The plan hit me last night as I was crawling into bed: I'll sort my iTunes by "Date Added" then look at the entries month by month to see what floats to the top. I've got new neighbors moving in today (which means hours of footsteps running up and down the stairs) so this will work nicely to drown out the noise.

The skepticism about being scientific comes from the fact that, just because I add a track in a certain month, it doesn't mean the song was released then, so keep that in mind. Plus, sometimes I forget to turn off my iPod, so getting a lot of plays isn't always a sign of liking a song/band; it might be utter coincidence.
January:

Fun. - Some Nights

...from the EP, Before Shane Went to Bangkok: Fun. Live in the USA. You might check their site; it had been a free download. Not sure if it's still available.

February:

The Districts - Rocking Chair

They have a new album coming out in February 2015 and also are scheduled to be in Kansas City that same month. Mark your calendars!

March:

Water Liars - Tolling Bells

My copy is from a Daytrotter session. You know how I am addicted to Daytrotter. In fact, I just renewed my annual subscription and saved 50% (so that's $16) and now I can download all I want for another year. Daytrotter is a great source of music and I can't praise them enough. (In December 2014, subscribe and save 50%: Use promo code CHEER1YR and get half off a 1-yr membership. See their website for details.)
Tied for March is:

Kodaline - All I Want

April:

Manchester Orchestra - After the Scripture

I adore this song. I can't say anything more.

May:

Tim Fite - all of it.

In all honesty, the whole month of May should pretty much be dedicated to finding Tim Fite. The thing is, I now own about 4 bazillion Tim Fite songs, so the numbers get spread a little thin if I only look at plays, so it's hard to pick one song in particular.

June:

I definitely have days when I need something a little heavier in my life. I guess that's how I was feeling in June!

PUP - Reservoir

They have free downloads of this song available on Bandcamp.

July:

Bootstraps - Fourty five

In July, Daytrotter released a Bootstraps session, so although I did officially really like them before July and owned some of their music, I'm going to count them for July. We had company in town this month, so I didn't have much chance for music exploration this month!

August:

Vampire Weekend - M79

Vampire Weekend has been around for a while and I've been listening to them here and there, but this year they hit me a little harder with Step. I love the song. Consequently, I realized they had a Daytrotter session that I hadn't downloaded, which is why M 79 is one of this month's winner.

Thad Kopec - Albatross

Albatross doesn't have a video I can share, but here's a link so you can listen. I've told you -- probably more than once -- about how much I enjoy listening to his music.

The Griswolds - Red Tuxedo

What a fun song!

September:

Sara Swenson - Darling Dear

Sara Swenson came home this year after about a year in the UK; new husband in tow. I prefer Sara's music live, but since I can't really have her follow me around and sing me songs all day, I do have to resort to listening to her recorded music -- which I do frequently.

Darling Dear is from her new album, Runway Lights. It's a great chapter in her story. There's not a video for the song, so you can watch this one instead.
October:

The Paragraphs - Turns to Dust

I know, I know, I've already told you about Lost Ark Studio and The Paragraphs, but fair is fair, They won October. Check NoiseTrade and the band's Bandcamp page to get some cheap/free downloads of their music.

Bear's Den - Agape

This song is so emotional and beautiful and I have to just freeze in place when it comes on and listen to every single word.

November:

The Lonely Hunter - Lost and Found

I couldn't find a video for this song, but I really like it. You can get a sampler album from NoiseTrade that has the song and many others to help support The Orphan Care Network.

December:

Thrift - Mockingbird

December is easy, I didn't even have to look to know that it was Thrift. I'm crazy about Thrift lately and listen to their album every day. My thanks goes to Instagram for helping me cross paths with this music!

There were certainly many more great bands, songs, and live shows this year, so those who are not mentioned shouldn't feel slighted! Unless you suck, then yes, you should feel slighted. Very, very slighted.

Bye!Ramblings of a Baby Dinosaurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06934306642559715622noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2626882623083389952.post-22951514455115092212014-12-06T17:04:00.000-06:002014-12-06T20:25:43.994-06:00Dinoscore: Joshua James, his new album, and a Rafflecopter giveaway!I've been listening to Joshua James for a few years now. I love how his voice is haunting and soothing at the same time. If I'm struggling to get to sleep, or feeling anxious, I just put on his music and float away.

Recently, my mom and I had to take an emergency road trip from Kansas City to Florida for my grandma's funeral. We wanted to get there ASAP, so we drove straight through -- only stopping for brief gas/pit stops. I was letting her drive while I took a nap, but couldn't fall asleep. I dug out my iPod and was search through for something to listen to that would help me settle in and sleep for a bit. I was skipping through song by song, when finally, Joshua James popped up and I knew that was just what I needed to block out the traffic and distractions.

If I'm every trying to concentrate on something (which is often a struggle for me), I'll often switch over to Joshua James to help me keep that focus.

So, recently, his new album came out: Well, Then, I'll Go to Hell. I ordered it right away. Turns out, I've talked about him enough that one of my friends got the album for me too, so now I have two copies. Lucky for you, I'm not a hoarder (anymore), so I decided to try a Rafflecopter giveaway to share my extra copy. So, one of the copies I have is autographed, so I figured you might like to have that one. This will be my first Rafflecopter, so FINGERS CROSSED... I hope this goes smoothly.

I encourage you to check out Joshua James' music -- not just the new album!

From time to time, I end up getting extra CDs and other things from bands, so maybe this will be a good way to spread the wealth.

Dramamine is definitely one of my new favorites, but there are many other great songs!
Currently, they have a Kickstarter running that only has about a week left. Meeting their goal can help them add a music venue in Kansas City that, so far, has offered great names at great prices. I have high hopes for this place.

I have pledged my support and hope you will too. If you like live music, I urge you to support a venue that is looking to provide a chance to have intimate shows with great bands.
Lately, anywhere I go, my favorite thing is label samplers. So, the other day when I was digging around on Noisetrade I found 8 volumes of music from Lost Ark Studio in California.

I did a quick glance of the "sounds like section" and decided to go for it and download all 8 volumes. Because of this decision, this has been a great week! It's exciting to find some new, interesting music. I don't get a lot of time for stuff like this anymore, so it's a real treat when I find something special.

I thought the best way to share with you about these volumes, was to do a little mix tape of some of the songs I liked the best. I haven't even done any searching to see what kind of web content these bands have before sitting down to write this so, I'm not sure what this will look like when it's done, but if nothing else, you can (at least for now) download the music from Noisetrade.

Here we go. Please note this is not necessarily and all-inclusive list of music I liked out of the many volumes:

The Paragraphs - Turns to Dust

Republic of Letters - Help Me

Strange Vine - Kitchen Floor

Tan Sister Radio - Leap Year

The Absolute - I Had it Coming

That's a few to get you started. Jump in and take a look around.Ramblings of a Baby Dinosaurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06934306642559715622noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2626882623083389952.post-88407366762861062062014-07-13T20:41:00.001-05:002014-07-13T20:43:02.588-05:00Recently Unearthed: Grav3yardgirlI have a Roku. I might have told you about it before, maybe not. Anyway, I had one of the kind of "original" Rokus, but it got stolen at Thanksgiving (see past posts for that fun story), so I bought a new one. The newer generation is kind of not my favorite thing in the world. It interferes with my laptop wifi and seems a little glitchy, but it's mine so I deal with it.

When I first got started with Roku I had hoped to use it for YouTube, but later found out that YouTube didn't really work with Roku; however, they've recently added a YouTube channel that I have been getting a lot of enjoyment out of. I don't check for "new" channels often and don't really keep up on Roku news, so maybe this has been available longer than I realize, but it's a recent addition for me.

The YouTube channel isn't dreamy, but it's tolerable. It works better if you go ahead and register/sync your device to your YouTube account. It works even better (most of the time) if you browse YouTube on your smartphone, then link to your Roku to play the video on your TV. (It's easier to search using smartphone than the Roku/YouTube search where you hunt & peck the alphabet.)

So, somehow in between my recent rekindled love of Morten Harket (formerly of a-ha) and the obsessive video watching that ensued, I happened upon Grav3yardgirl. You see, if you watch a video on the YouTube channel on Roku, when one video ends, it will start another after a few seconds and somehow it decided to play one of her "Does this thing really work?" videos.

I'm ever-so-skeptical of As Seen on TV products, so I let the video play. My first reaction to Bunny was that she was a little crazy. Then, before judgement set in, I realized that I TOO am a little crazy so maybe that isn't such a bad thing.

Long story still reasonably long, it's been a couple of weeks now and I'm thoroughly and completely 100% addicted to her YouTube channel. This weekend, I taught my mom (& attempted to teach the cat) the art of "Sippy Sippy". I must warn you, this art needs some practice as, even for Bunny, I've noticed that sometimes Sippy Sippy turns into Chokey Coughy.

Being a rather portly dinosaur, I'm not that much into fashion. My arms are too short to apply makeup, so I'm not into that either (a-la T-Rex trying); however, I even really like watching her videos about makeup and clothes and the death-machine shoes she likes to wear.

It might not be your "thang" but I'd recommend you take a look at her channel and see if you like it. It's hard to pick a video to share, so I'll just post the last one I watched.

I lied.

You see, when I'm working, I have my iPod on most of the time. If I find a song I don't like, I mark it 1 star, so later when I sync my iPod, I'll know to remove that song from my device. (If you have a better way of doing this... I'd be happy to hear your method!) If I like a song, I'll mark it a higher star rating and if I'm indifferent it gets no stars.

While I'm doing this, if something catches my attention enough, I'll write it down on a little list I keep so I can go back and listen to more later. These lists are what I keep with me to remember what to tell you about when I actually get around to blogging.

When I first started this blog, I was going to do some reviews of music I didn't like, but I stopped doing that because I don't want to be one of those people. You know the ones... they join Yelp just to do a horrible review for one business after one experience or even worse because they've heard something bad and haven't even gone there themselves.

I don't like when people say "Oh, I hate _____." and haven't even tried it...or even if they have tried it and still hate it, that doesn't mean other people have to hate it.

I hate miso soup, but there are bazillions of people out there that eat it. I don't understand it. I can't stand it. I don't even want to think about it.

Well, UUVVWWZ is my new miso soup. They are to music what Amy Schumer is to comedy...wait...now I've gone too far. No one is as bad as she is.

Anyway, when UUVVWWZ came up on my ipod, it impacted me so that I wrote it on my list of things to tell you about and next to it I wrote BAD BAD BAD.

You be your own judge. Remember that I tried to warn you.
I'm not saying I won't. I have her Daytrotter sessions and really love Land Majestic.

I'm not sure how "official" or "unofficial" this video is, but it's all I've got:
You thought I'd dropped off the face of the earth, eh?
Sometimes it's just hard to sit down and write. It's like everything I need to get done involves a computer and sometimes I just get a little tired of using the computer.

I'm still working on trying to sell off some of my dad's stuff on eBay. It'll take years, but trying to get the clunky stuff out of the way at least.

Work seems busy all of the time.

Winter was ROUGH!

I have to spend a lot of my time at my Mom's now.

There are lots of reasons. Not one of them is that I don't love you.

So, the other day, I was sitting around listening to my iPod at work and this really cool song came on called Joyriding. It just INSTANTLY got my attention. Turns out it was Tim Fite. I had a few of his downloads from Paste and Daytrotter. Now, I'm obsessed and have like 50 of his songs.

So, go listen to Joyriding. I couldn't find a great video for it.

Instead, I chose this video. Maybe it's not my favorite song, but it's still good and... Who doesn't love animated cat buttholes, right?
They've come from different sources, like Paste, Daytrotter, perhaps even SoundSupp.ly considering the number of tracks I have. They're from New Orleans, which already puts them in line to be something I like, since there are a lot of things I find myself liking in New Orleans.
One thing I like about this band is that not every song sounds the same. Sure, they still sound like themselves, but some bands/musicians get in a rut and every song is so similar sometimes.

The Rifles have a sloppy, fun sound that makes you think you're just sitting around in your buddy's basement listening to his band have a little jam session. Now, don't let that make you think that the music is poor quality; that's a complement, really.

They have a new album coming out very soon "None the Wiser". I'll be checking it out. You probably should too.
I grew up on country music, so at first I thought it was cute when Johnny Cash got the attention of hipsters, but I'm really, so sick of hearing his version of Personal Jesus, I really start to vomit every time I hear it. I really didn't like that song to start with and listening to him drag it out just makes it worse.

Anyway, today's topic isn't Johnny Cash. Personally, I don't have a problem with hipsters or Johnny Cash, was just trying to show the evolution of country music into a modern time that doesn't include Trace Adkins or some of the Jersey Shoresque country music that is out there today.

I've listened to my share of country music in the past. Remember how old I am. I was country when country wasn't cool, then stopped being country, then went back to country in the mid 90s. I've seen Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and several other well known country acts live. I'm still planning to go see Kenny Rogers live before he's not live anymore. You might recall David Allan Coe's song "You Never Even Called me by my Name" that gives the recipe for a country song:

Well, I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison,
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in the pick-up truck,
She got runned over by a damned old train.

The kind of country music I like now is not about beer or cheatin', but its more of a sound, I like acoustic sounds: mandolins, banjos... dammit I even like a steel guitar when you do it right. So, on days like today, a band like Mandolin Orange hits the spot. I first found them on Daytrotter. Anyway, long story short...I like them, you might too.
That way, when I finally get around to telling you about them, I remember what they are. Problem is, today I went halfway through the list before I found anything that I liked enough to tell you about. I guess there are days I'm in a different mood and that makes me pick songs that don't strike me at other times.

Another dilemma was a couple of bands/musicians that seem to not find it as important to have a way to find them on the internet as it is for them to record their music because their online identities were too non-existent for me to be able to find anything else.

Well, with all that out of my way, I think I'll tell you about Ane Brun. You might already know about her. I don't own a lot of her music. I've had Treehouse Song for awhile and Do You Remember came through Paste in the last year or so.

Her sound is a little different for me, but I find myself liking her music, I think it kind of works as a palette cleanser for me. If you haven't heard her, give her a chance.
This is a repost of the basic details. When I'm out and about, I'll tweet my approximate location. It's up to you to do the rest.

Here's what I'm going to do:

I will post on Twitter the business or general location that I am leaving my tracks (@Clau_HMFIC). After doing so, I will leave my business card(s) somewhere at that location. The business card will have a secret word/phrase written on it. Example #BeepBopBoop

Follow me on Twitter to get the clue.

Find the business card.

Go to Twitter.

Tweet me, include secret word/phrase that is on the business card. (Example: Hey #beepbopboop @clau_HMFIC ...)

Sit back and relax.

One winner per secret word/phrase and you can only submit One secret word/phrase. So, if you find more than one business card, leave it for someone else and don't think 12 of you can send me the same secret word/phrase. First correct submission for each one according to the order they reach me on Twitter will be declared winner.

Their sound is one of my weaknesses, so they instantly got my attention, but then, when I started to listen more I wasn't finding myself thrilled. Finally, I started just sampling a bunch of their random songs and hit Heart Attack from Lions & Lambs EP. Heart Attack really got my attention; it's different from some of the other songs. Then, once I went back and listened to more of the songs, I got more into it.

Molly and Johnny sound really good together.

You know I always try to share a video with you on my posts. I'm having trouble deciding which one to share.
Recently I finally finished my old list, so I'm happy to get started on this "new" list. In this case, my tardiness might have come in handy. I had downloaded Static Jacks originally from Daytrotter, but now they have a new album out -- IN BLUE -- that is way even more awesome than the tracks from Daytrotter.

I get really lost in their grungy sound; it's soothing in a loud way. I find myself in a trance, just pounding my fist on the table along with the beat. I think this album will be great for my next road trip; time will fly by listening to it.
Some asshats broke into my place and stole the few things I have that were of even the slightest value. I hope stealing is secretly the #1 cause of anus cancer.
So, 2013 is definitely going in the books as a shitty year.

By the way, it takes over 6 hours for me to load my iPod contents, so I was doing that instead of blogging recently. Sorry.
